Chemical Peels

What are Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels are cosmetic treatments made up of customized chemical solutions that are designed to address a variety of skin concerns. By damaging and peeling off the top layers of the facial skin and removing dead skin cells, the treatment can rejuvenate the skin and give you the flawless and more youthful appearance you’re looking for.

No two chemical peels are alike. They differ depending on the depth of the peel. They range from superficial peels/light chemical peels to medium peels to deep chemical peels. They can address rough skin and uneven skin tone and skin texture, sun damage caused by excess sun exposure, deeper wrinkles, deep scars, and more.

Chemical peels can include a variety of different ingredients, including glycolic acid, beta hydroxy acid, alpha hydroxy acids, lactic acid, salicylic acid, and more.

Chemical Peels FAQ

A chemical peel uses a chemical solution to remove layers of skin, revealing the more youthful skin underneath. Chemical peels can reduce or improve fine lines and wrinkles, acne, scars, uneven skin coloring and other skin imperfections.
Good for you! Not only are they important in maintaining the health of your skin, but they are also one of the most effective facial treatments there is. Chemical peels can be used to correct issues such as uneven tone, fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots and even acne.
Immediately after the peel, your skin will feel tight and may be red. Any visible peeling will be light and fluffy and easily controlled with moisturizer. Peeling usually lasts 3-5 days, depending on the actual peel treatment.
The greatest concern tends to be over chemical peel pain. While a patient may need some sort of pain control during a deep peel, light and medium peels don’t hurt. In general, light and medium peels cause some discomfort. The discomfort ranges from mild to moderate, depending on the patient’s level of tolerance.
It usually takes several treatment sessions to see the desired outcomes. Most people notice some improvement after their first chemical peel, but with multiple treatments over the span of several months, patients will be astonished by how much better their skin looks.
Peels can be used to improve the appearance of acne scars, melasma, sun-damaged skin, wrinkles, and several other conditions. They can also be used to lighten dark spots. Chemical peels for lightening dark spots use chemical agents that enable the removal of the skin pigment melanin.
Because superficial peels are the gentlest type, a person may need up to five sessions to see the results they want. People may be able to have superficial peels every 2–5 weeks.
Research has shown that superficial or light peels may help manage acne, while medium and deep peels may help more in treating moderate acne scars.
