Laser Hair Removal

What is Laser Hair Removal?

Are you tired of tweezing, shaving, and waxing to get rid of unwanted body hair? If so, laser hair removal may be a great option for you! Laser hair removal is a procedure that uses concentrated laser light to remove unwanted body hair for good, so you won’t have to worry about constant maintenance. Common treatment areas include the bikini line, legs, armpits, upper lip, and chin. However, laser hair removal can be used on almost any area of the body.

What are the benefits of Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal offers many benefits, including:

  • Leaves no scars.
  • Long-lasting results.
  • Helps you avoid ingrown hairs.
  • Results in softer, smoother skin.

What to Expect During a Laser Hair Removal Treatment

Prior to your laser hair removal treatment, you will be asked to avoid tweezing and waxing in the treatment area for at least 6 weeks before treatment. You should also avoid sun exposure before and after treatment for the best results.

To begin treatment, a topical numbing cream will be applied. The laser hair removal handpiece will then be moved across the treatment area, targeting unwanted hair follicles.

After treatment, it is important to wear sunscreen when out in the sun. Cool compresses and moisturizers may help with any initial redness or swelling, which should resolve within 48 hours.

Who is a Candidate?

Ideal laser hair removal candidates are those with lighter skin tones and darker hair. This is because the laser energy targets melanin in the hair, so darker hair colors often see the best results. You should not receive this treatment if you are pregnant, have a history of keloid scarring, are taking certain acne medications, or have had skin cancer. The best way to determine if treatment is right for you is through a consultation with Nurse Nataly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is laser hair removal and how does it work?

Laser hair removal uses a concentrated beam of light that is absorbed by melanin, the pigment in hair follicles. The heat generated disables the follicle’s ability to produce new hair, which reduces hair growth in the treated area over a series of sessions. It’s commonly used on the legs, underarms, bikini line, upper lip, and chin, though most areas of the body can be treated.

Is laser hair removal uncomfortable?

Most clients describe the sensation as a quick warm pinch or snap as the laser passes over the skin, and a topical numbing cream is applied beforehand to help with comfort. Some redness or mild swelling can occur immediately after treatment, but this typically resolves within 48 hours.

Who is a good candidate for laser hair removal?

Because the laser targets melanin in the hair, clients with lighter skin and darker, coarser hair tend to see the most noticeable results. Laser hair removal isn’t recommended during pregnancy or for those with a history of keloid scarring, certain acne medications, or prior skin cancer, so a consultation is used to confirm candidacy.

How many sessions will I need, and how often?

Most treatment plans involve a series of sessions spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart for the body and 4 to 6 weeks apart for the face, since hair grows in cycles and the laser works best on actively growing follicles. Many clients notice less regrowth after the first several visits, with occasional touch-up sessions afterward to manage any remaining hair.

Can laser hair removal be combined with other treatments?

Yes. Many clients pair laser hair removal with skin tightening treatments as part of a broader body contouring plan, since the two address different concerns and can be scheduled on separate visits. Your provider can help sequence treatments based on your goals and treatment areas.

How should I care for my skin between sessions?

Sun protection before and after each session is especially important, since sun-exposed or tanned skin increases the risk of irritation and can make treatment less effective. Many clients also incorporate our medical facials into their regular routine to help support smooth, healthy skin between laser sessions.

Laser Hair Removal FAQ

Laser Hair Removal works best on light skin and dark coarse hair. As long as the hair has pigment (meaning color) the laser will recognize the hair and will remove it.² Laser Hair Removal is not well suited for gray hair, red or white hairs and electrolysis may be a better option for treating those colored hairs. Your hairs grow in 3 different stages, active (antigen), transitional (telegan) and resting (catagen). When the hair is in active (antigen) growth phase there is an appendage attached to the hair follicle that the laser is targeting for destruction. While results may very, typically, after the first few visits most clients begin to notice less hair, as well as hair getting finer, thinner and lighter.³ Clients also notice that the hair we have treated will start to grow back less frequently. Towards the end of the laser hair removal sessions, most client’s hair will not grow back for weeks.

iGlow Clinic offers competitive pricing and financing options to make it affordable for almost anyone. Laser hair removal means money out of your pocket, but if you calculate the lifetime cost of shaving, waxing, threading, plucking, or whatever it is you do to deal with unwanted body hair, then you know that you’re making a wise and worthy investment. Laser hair removal cost is different depending on the area and type of laser used. Consultation is complimentary so you can find out right away if the treatment is something you can afford. When a hair follicle is damaged, the hair usually does not grow back. However, laser hair removal is not guaranteed to be permanent hair removal. iGlow Clinic offers permanent hair reduction³ and has treated hundreds of successful cases. Reducing unwanted hair in hormonal areas such as your chin or any access facial hairs more require more sessions. The treatment works by the selective targeting of melanin in hair follicles with bursts of intense light energy that helps reduce unwanted hair, by damaging the hair follicle. While this process significantly reduces unwanted hair, it’s possible that a few hair follicles will manage to partially escape the laser during the treatment.¹ But don’t worry. Those hairs are targeted during your following laser hair removal treatments.

Many of our clients come in for laser hair removal on their lunch break. Using our advanced laser hair removal technology speeds up the hair reduction procedure. It also minimizes downtime, with most patients returning back to work directly after their appointment.

While every client is different, the amount of treatments predominately depends on the areas treated. Typically, when reducing unwanted hair from the underarms and lower half of the body, such as full legs or Brazilian bikini, clients schedule treatments every 6 to 8 weeks.² For reducing unwanted facial hair, such as hair on the upper lip, chin, and sideburns, most clients schedule a laser hair removal appointment every 4 to 6 weeks. Usually optimal hair reduction is reached within 6 to 8 weeks, and clients may then opt for a touch up session , spaced out every 8-12 weeks apart, to reduce remaining hair. ³²Again, the number of treatments and the space in between each treatment depends on the client as well as other factors. During your free consultation, a laser specialist will discuss what you may expect during your laser hair reduction treatments.
