How does the laser carbon dioxide resurfacing work?

MIXTO CO2 offers optimal delivery of thermal energy to the epidermis and upper dermis with a pattern of laser light causing minute perforations in the epidermis while leaving the surrounding skin intact. The result is quicker healing and less patient discomfort as the patient’s own collagen works synergistically with the procedure to rebuild collagen, which effectively tightens loose skin and large pores, giving a more youthful appearance within weeks and continued improvement over time as collagen continues rebuilding.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is CO2 laser skin resurfacing?

The CO2 Time Machine uses a fractional CO2 laser to resurface the skin, targeting fine lines, acne and surgical scars, pigmentation, sun damage, and uneven texture. Because it works with your own skin cells, it’s designed to help rebuild collagen and elastin over time.

How does the CO2 laser treatment work?

The laser delivers thermal energy to the epidermis and upper dermis in a pattern of tiny perforations, leaving the surrounding tissue intact. This stimulates the body’s own collagen-building process, which can continue to improve skin texture and firmness for weeks after treatment.

Is CO2 laser resurfacing painful, and what’s the downtime like?

Treatment is typically performed with topical anesthesia to manage discomfort. Recovery involves more downtime than non-ablative options, since the skin needs time to heal as new tissue forms, though healing is generally quicker than with some traditional ablative lasers.

How long do results last, and will I need more than one session?

Many clients see continued improvement for weeks after a single session as collagen rebuilds, and results can be maintained for an extended period with proper skincare and sun protection. Your provider can advise whether additional sessions are appropriate for your goals.

How does the CO2 Time Machine compare to a photofacial?

The CO2 Time Machine resurfaces deeper layers of skin, making it suited to more pronounced texture concerns and scarring. A photofacial instead uses light energy to target pigment and surface vessels without disrupting the skin’s surface, generally allowing for a faster recovery. Your provider can help match the treatment to your goals and downtime tolerance.

Are there less intensive alternatives to laser resurfacing?

Yes. Our chemical peels range from superficial to deep and can address some of the same concerns, such as texture and pigmentation, with varying levels of downtime. A consultation can help you compare options and find a treatment path that fits your comfort level.
