Oh the sun. How we love and are cautious of it. We need it for Vitamin D.. it’s actually crucial for our overall health and well-being. But there’s a flip side; too much sun can leave quite the imprint on our skin: from sun spots, skin laxity, fine lines and wrinkles, melasma exacerbation, and unfortunately skin cancer.
Fortunately, there are treatments that can reverse the sun’s damage and lighten the skin. All the sun damage that you have now, is actually from years ago. There are layers to the skin, and once the first layer of sun damage is taken off, newer damage will start to pop up. With any of these treatments, it’s advised to do at least 3 treatments spaced out accordingly to create more even skin completion. These treatments are upon medical consultation and tailored per patient.
- Photofacial/IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)
- Micropen and your PRP
- Chemical Peels
- Topical products with skin lightening agents
- The natural lightening agents include kojic acid (comes from mushrooms), topical vitamin A and C, licorice extract, bearberry extract, the list goes on).
- Hydroquinone is used for short periods to dramatically lighten the skin
When you go outside, wear a protective hat, sunglasses and most importantly SUNSCREEN. (*Zinc oxide is the healthiest and least toxic sun block protection). The sun ages us, so let’s be cautious about our exposure!
