Dehydration and Sun Damage – These freckles appeared over night!
These are some remarks we here in our office. Believe it or not, one of the biggest factors in “looking older” is skin clarity. Someone’s age can really show when they have a lot of sun damage, discoloration, and if they’ve lost that luster and hydration in the skin we had when we were younger.
Think of how often we are exposed to sunlight…driving in your car, sitting by the window, walking for a few minutes outside on a cloudy day, we are exposed to UVA and UVB radiation all the time.
To prevent, reverse and protect our skin from dehydration and sun damage, here are some important tips:
- Drink half your body weight in ounces… we’re talking about water 😉
- Daily SPF of at least 30. Not all SPFs are created equal. (Sunscreen Blog explanation coming soon!)
- Choose a brightening moisturizer to wear every day and night that doesn’t have any dyes or unnecessary parabens. Brightening agents inhibit melanin (cells that produce our tans and discoloration); there is a wide range of brightening agents, the most popular are vitamin C, arbutin, kojic acid, azelaic acid, and glutathione. There is also hydroquinone, which is a medical grade prescription.
Now…. How can we reverse sun damage? Here’s some options:
- Micropen and PRP
- Chemical Peels
4. Consistently using products with brightening agents and protecting yourself from the sun
